Mortensen Math is a multi sensory approach to teaching and thinking about math.. Students learn mathematics by seeing, touching, and moving colorful blocks and tiles. 

Mathematics is a visual form and highly sensorial. One must experience the concrete before understanding the abstract. 

Concrete: The hands on stage using manipulatives to model problems. Representational: (Drawings of the blocks);The seeing state using representations of the objects to model problems. Abstract: The symbolic stage using abstract symbols to model problems. 

Mortensen Math focuses on five strands: Arithmetic, Algebra, Measurement, Problem Solving, Calculus.
